There are a few things to keep in mind before you comin for your first appointment. For starters, your first Initial Assessment will be an 85-minute long appointment and it is required to receive any care from Schwabe Chiropractic. The first appointment is this long so that the Doctor and you can get fully acquainted and very clear on where you are at with your health and what type of care will be most beneficial to your lifestyle.
Secondly, all forms must be completed prior to your first visit. This gives the Doctor a chance to review your health history before you meet and helps keep your appointment time on track. All forms will be sent to you electronically through our booking platform Jane. Jane will be where you can go to manage your appointments and pay any balances on your account.
We have a small lot on the west side of the building you are welcome to park in if there are spaces available. If you do park in this lot, please be aware that the entrance to the building is on the east side on Evans and Washington.
Street parking is often the easiest and most convenient option. It is free 2 hour parking in the surrounding neighborhood, and there are several spots available directly in front of the building.
After your appointment it’s important to drink lots of water to help decrease post treatment irritation. Some soreness is expected following treatment. This is normal and it’s a sign of muscle tension related to joint restriction.
Just go online to schwabechiro.janeapp.com select your preferred provider and appointment type. Jane will populate all available times for you to choose from!
Yes, you can cancel your appointment though your confirmation email or in your Jane account. Please be aware of our cancellation policy before canceling your appointment.

The short answer is yes!
Chiropractors have more training in spinal and extremity manipulation than any other medical professional. We are experts in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal health and work to restore function to these systems.
On rare occasions it may not be recommended to go through with an adjustment until further imaging and tests have been performed. In that event, your (DOCTOR?) will explain to you what is going on and why we need to take a closer look at things before providing treatment. However; there is an ever-growing body of evidence to support the efficacy of the adjustment to restore or enhance joint function, reduce pain, resolve joint inflammation, and improve brain-body communication.
In fact, JAMA (The Journal of the American Medical Association) Open Network, recently reported that the results of a clinical trial showed that chiropractic care combined with usual medical care for low back pain provides greater pain relief and a greater reduction in disability than medical care alone. The study, which featured 750 active-duty members of the military, is one of the largest comparative effectiveness trials between usual medical care and chiropractic care ever conducted.
An adjustment is the primary chiropractic method. The chiropractic adjustment involves applying a very specific corrective technique to restore normal joint function to the spine or to any other other joint of the body.
At Schwabe Chiropractic, we take a holistic hands-on approach. We typically deliver an adjustment using our hands with a quick, gentle thrust. That approach isn’t loved by everyone and we are always happy to modify how we work to get the best results for you.
At Schwabe Chiropractic, we don’t have a one size fits all treatment plan. How often you will need to come in for your adjustments is entirely dependent on the severity of your complaint, condition, or injury, the type of care you are seeking, and your financial goals too.
For instance, if you come in with a recent injury and are seeking care to help you recover from that injury your doctor may want to see you more frequently than a patient who is coming in for maintenance care alone. If that is the case, we will work with you to find a treatment plan that will promote your recovery and slowly space out your appointments based on your need and how well your adjustments are holding.
While we love to see each and every one of our patients, our primary goal is to lessen the number of appointments needed to keep you living your life to its fullest!
You move your body with your muscles and all of your muscles are connected to bones which move with the help of joints. So, if your muscles are tight or painful it limits your body’s range of motion. Conversely if your joint is restricted your muscles won’t have full range of motion and will become tight and painful as a result.
Our muscles can also have a great impact on the alignment of our bodies. When our body is out of alignment our muscles will work harder to compensate for that imbalance. After an adjustment those muscles don’t forget the position they’ve learned to hold to keep us up and moving, so without soft tissue work and corrective exercises they can easily pull our joints back into misalignment. Soft tissue work as well as dry needling can help us retrain those muscles to support our alignment and work with us not against us.
With soft tissue work we can help reduce some of the chronic pain associated with long term misalignment. A lot of which resides in the soft tissue of your body. Everything in our body is held together by connective tissue, including our joints and muscles. As a result, if one thing is pulling our body in one direction another part has to compensate for that. Soft tissue work addresses both the connective tissues and the muscles to help restore the balance our bodies need to stay in alignment for longer periods of time.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, dehydration, poor posture, and/or surgical procedures among others can create fascial restrictions. Fascia restrictions can affect mobility and cause pain. Soft tissue work helps to stretch, loosen, and separate that fascia reducing pain and increasing mobility.
Dry Needling is a technique where small acupuncture-like needles are inserted where the motor nerve enters the muscle to help down regulate the nerve. This can be used to help release stubborn and tight muscles that are too sensitive for intense soft tissue therapy, and help relieve symptoms of conditions such as TMJ.
Reduce muscle tension and pain without the pain of intense muscle work.
Dry Needling is not the same thing as Acupuncture. Acupuncture is a much more in-depth study of traditional Chinese medicine and the balancing of the life force energy referred to as Chi. We believe that Acupuncture can be a great tool for your wellness and we strongly recommend our wellness partners over at The Point Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine if this is something you are interested in. We share a building with The Point, so if you are coming in for a visit you are welcome to check them out while you are here!
Dry Needling does use similar techniques to acupuncture but the training is more specific and applied to chiropractic theory and training.
While dry needling and chiropractic adjustments are safe and complementary treatments we will never perform an adjustment while the needles are inserted.
If you are interested in receiving both a dry needling treatment and an adjustment during one visit we suggest booking the Extended Visit. This will give your doctor enough time during the appointment to complete both treatments.
Yes! Chiropractic care is 100% for all stages of pregnancy. Dr. Kati Schwabe is specially trained in the Webster Technique which is a chiropractic technique specifically created to treat people throughout their pregnancy.
It is best to let your Chiropractor know about the pregnancy as soon as you are aware of it yourself, but chiropractic can be a great tool to help balance your body while it goes through the many physical changes that come along with pregnancy.
Chiropractic can even help lessen the physical trauma of childbirth by helping the body better prepare for birth, and it can be a great tool to help restore the body’s alignment post labor.
No, our tables are fully adaptable to accommodate pregnant bellies down to the expected due date, and we have pillows and other tools to help you and the baby sit comfortably during your adjustment.
Absolutely! Getting adjusted right before delivery can help prepare your pelvis and position your birth canal to encourage easier labor. You must first be an established patient, but if this is something you are interested in doing please talk with Dr. Schwabe about it at your next appointment.
Yes! Starting at a few weeks old it is safe for your baby to receive chiropractic adjustments. Kids need Chiropractic care, too! Adult spinal problems often begin in childhood while their nervous system is developing. The nervous system controls and coordinates the function of all the body systems such as the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, hormonal, and immune system. The Chiropractic adjustment restores impaired nerve interference, which allows the body to operate in a higher state of health and wellness.
Your child’s body is changing rapidly while they go through various life stages like sitting up, scooting, crawling, standing, walking, and all the crashes along the way. These are important times to have your child checked.
In addition, according to the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association), parents reported three major and unexpected improvements with their child’s Chiropractic care:
- Improved Sleep
- Improved behavior and attitude
- Improved immune system function
We are out of network with all insurance. We can provide you with what is called a Superbill. Superbills are detailed receipts with your medical billing codes included on them. You can then submit these codes to your insurance for reimbursement. Depending on your coverage only a portion of your appointments may or may not be covered and your insurance company. Unfortunately, we can not tell you what will or will not be covered as each insurance policy is different.
Please note, that we do not bill insurance meaning the total upfront cost for the visit will be your responsibility.
We are non-par with all insurance. This allows us to use all the tools, skills, and tricks that we can to get you feeling better on your body’s schedule rather than the schedule of the insurance company. In each visit we check in and evaluate where you’re at that day, adjust whatever it is that could help you feel your best, work on related musculature, discuss any exercises or mobility that you can do on your own to help you help yourself, and we also work on nutrition, stress, sleep hygiene, or similar along the way!
We can, however, give you a super bill which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
We can also take your payment using your HSA or flex card if it’s in the form of a credit card!
For individuals 65 or older, it is required that we collect all Medicare and insurance information including Medicare Part B and any supplemental or advantage insurance plans you may have.
Please be aware that while we are federally required to bill medicare, not all costs will be covered by Medicare, and we are what is called “non- par” or out of network with all insurances.
If you primarily use a supplemental insurance plan then we are happy to provide you with a “Superbill” which is a receipt for each appointment with the insurance billing codes included should you want to submit them to your insurance for reimbursement. Depending on your coverage only a portion of your appointments may or may not be covered and your insurance company. You are responsible for covering the costs of all charges not reimbursed to you by your insurance. Unfortunately, we can not tell you what will or will not be covered as each insurance policy is different.
Before you come in for your first appointment we will need copies of all of your insurance cards. Please contact us if you have questions about the best way to go about sharing that information with us.
We are no longer requiring masks in the office. However; if you would like to wear a mask we welcome you to do so, and if you would like your doctor to wear a mask during your treatment we are happy to accommodate you.
In an effort to keep our community safe, we ask that anyone who has been exposed to or is experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 reschedule their appointment and stay home. Our Covid-19 policy states that patients and staff must wait 1 week after the onset of symptoms or positive test before coming back into our office.
If you have been exposed but are not experiencing symptoms we ask that you wait a few days and take a test before coming in.
This is all in an effort to keep our staff and patients healthy. As healthcare providers we see many people from all different life situations. Some who are immunocompromised, some who are caring for sick or high risk loved ones, and some who are also in healthcare and have a responsibility to protect the people they serve as well. We appreciate your endless support and understanding as we continue to navigate this new landscape.
In order to allow sufficient time for rescheduling, and to allow others who are in need of treatment sufficient notice of any available openings, we require a 24hr notice when you need to cancel. Calling the day of your appointment to cancel is considered a missed appointment and is subject to all cancellation fees.
We understand that emergencies happen, and, in those cases, you may not be able to give a full 24-hour notice. If this is the case, please call us as soon as you are able, and we will work it out with you.
